I have trained in Transactional Analysis (more on Transactional Analysis here). Over time, my practice has been enriched by a slew of other approaches. Along Transactional Analysis, I most commonly use elements of CBT and ACT informed interventions (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and its derivative Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), psychodynamic in-depth interventions, Jungian psychology which is my absolute fav in many respects and last but not the least Mindfulness informed psychotherapy, this last being driven by recent surge of scientific finding on how mindfulness meditation practice combined with the brain plasticity can create lasting changes in neural pathways resulting in changes in patterns of thinking and behaviour.
Anyone of the above approaches can be very effective and even life changing with certain client presentations. However, creating a mix that works for a specific person can be dynamite. And this is best achieved within the crucible of the client-therapist relation, which is essential for this ideal conditions to come together and for the magic of therapy to happen. That is what I always strive for.
Psychotherapy is my second career. I worked for a number of years in science, which still influences my therapeutic style and, using hypothesis and deduction as tools to get to the heart of the problem. However, I also like to introduce elements of creativity, free association and spontaneity into my practice, when both client and myself feel it is appropriate. Access to our imagination can unlock insights that otherwise would remain unnoticed. It can also make the work more fun.
You can read more about my journey to psychotherapy on my ‘Meet the Therapist’ page.
More about some of the methods I use can be found in My Approach.
Professional Bodies and the Ethical Framework
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). As such, I closely abide by the guidelines of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy for ethics and good practice.
No Judgement Policy
There will be absolutely no judgement - you can bring everything that you are, your dark side, your insecure side, absolutely everything. As human beings we are complex, and no one is just good or just bad. My work is informed by that principle.
